Match Report

Well, I thought when Bec and I emigrated from the North East Area we came across some pretty confusing competitions - changing your partner half way through a heat, what's that all about!? But this was the most confusing yet. There seemed to be about 2 1/2 million competitions and 30 different numbers for everyone. I don't know how anyone else coped but I did so by doing what I was told, it's just as well Mark, Gilli and Paula knew what was going on (most of the time).

The day started in a mad panic with the Ballroom competitions and it was testimony to everyone's professionalism that they took to the floor with style and grace that belied the frantic face-painting, dressing and number pinning that went on off-stage. The only minor hiccup was an untimely meeting of Bec's bum with the floor, I would like to point out that (unusually) this was not my fault and Bec has eventually found it in her heart to forgive me for not rescuing her.

For many people the highlight of the day was the Classical Sequence, or Old Time as it is commonly known, it was a new experience to almost all who tried it and there was much chaotic practicing behind the scenes. It was all worthwhile though, because Wright Rhythm came away with the school trophy and I hope that at least some will have been bitten by the Old Time bug.

By the time it came to the Latin everyone was exhausted (well I was anyway, I'm sure there were some young whipper-snappers out there who were still fresh as fiddles). However, spurred on by the morning's successes, the energy still pulsed around the floor and you wouldn't have believed everyone had been dancing all day.

The day finished with the announcements of who had qualified and it was evident from the huge smiles and hugs that it had been a fantastically successful day, roll on the children's qualifiers, they have a high standard meet...
