U16's Nationwide Ballroom Qualifying 2005/06
Sunday 1st October 2005 : Haywards Heath
Match Report
And Wright Rhythm are back with a BANG! (If bang is a good adjective to describe dancing?) In a superlative dancing display, not only did our dancers who were there to qualify make it though to Blackpool but Carys, Nichole, Holly and Jonathan who were expecting just to do their medallist, also qualified in Old Time. How's that for over-achieving!
The Old-Time bug is definitely going round at Wright Rhythm and tension was high as everyone focused on their glisades (that's a glide to the side) and balancés (forward, forward, close). Bec's Old Time boot camps that she had been running over the past few weeks looked like they were paying off but I'm reliably informed that the girls still aren't holding their skirts out high enough - the next boot camp will clearly be focusing on this! By the time we get you all to Blackpool it'll be as if we'd been transported back to the times of chivalry and innocence (well, maybe).
After such success in the morning the question remained, could everyone carry it through to the qualifying competitions and emulate the spectacular success of the adults? Well, anything the wrinklies can do the spring chickens can do better. The first rounds went though smoothly enough with everyone working up only the lightest of sweats, then, almost before we knew it, the dance off's were being called. With no-one from Wright Rhythm being involved everyone left knew they were either in or out - it was all decided the only thing left to do was wait (and dance in the medallist and couples comps).
So, the die cast and atmosphere electric, nervous faces lined the ballroom (ok, sports hall). Mark, called in to announce the results, began to read off names... as each set of qualifiers was confirmed smiles got broader and broader, no doubt about it, another fantastic result for Wright Rhythm. So, on a day that was all about the qualifying, it was mission accomplished! Two other results of particular note, however, Conner and Jemma defeating their arch rivals to win the 13-15 couples and an outstanding Fylde Waltz from Chris for his victory in the Old Time medallist.
