Nicky Miles
Sunday 3rd December 2006 : Gillingham
Match Report
As the wind howled and the rain lashed against the Black Lion Sports Centre in Gillingham you could be forgiven for thinking we were back in Prestatyn. This was, however, a relatively low key affair compared to the heights of the Supadance finals but one taken no less seriously by those participating. Nicky Miles was on fine form as compare in a very fetching Santa outfit and organising impromptu fun competitions such as the back to back waltz (it's an art form of it's own) and the three person cha cha (no, Nicky, I didn't get the steps wrong, it was artistic interpretation!)
It was clear from the start that Wright Rhythm would be the dominant force of the day and special mention must be made of the newcomers to the competition scene who put on extremely fine displays with many reaching finals. Proof of these superb performances came with the presentations where it seemed Wright Rhythm dancers were continually trekking up to receive their honours, many of the smaller dancers won so many trophies they struggled to carry them back to their seats!
Congratulations to everyone and remember that, although this might seem a small competition compared to some more recent ones, it is important to treat every dance as if it is the final at Blackpool that way you get used to performing to the best of your ability - for more information on how 'winning is a habit' check out Glenn's excellent article.
