Supadance Team Match
Sunday 14th September : Frimley Green
Thanks for this report from Mr Reid Enright [you're not fooling anyone Kyle - Ed]
So the competition season resumed last Sunday with the third Supadance match of the year. I think everyone was ready to go following the long, hard, tedious practice of the last few weeks. It was time to put the new moves to work and test them in pressured conditions.
As many will have noticed, there has been a shake up in the couples since the last team match, with some new members to the school, some people still on holiday and a few partners shuffling around within teams. As a result there was a general atmosphere of tension amongst the ranks. Would the changes have been for the better? Wright Rhythm had stormed the floor in the preliminary match when divisions were decided, but results had dipped by the time the rankings started to count towards finals. With other schools putting up a stronger team every time we met it was crucial that we upped our game.
Now, the long summer break could have had two possible effects. We could have been drawn into a sense of complacency by the long period without a competition, or we could have used that time to consolidate and concentrate ourselves, honing our skills. When looking at the results of the supporting competitions, not only did Wright Rhythm win several first places, but they also secured several second place positions aswell. The high standard of dancing was evident.
However it came time for the team matches and almost predictably Diamonds had pipped Wright Rhythm to the post yet again. It would seem that we have the strength to challenge, but not the depth to place the killer blow.
So does this mean that the opposition are unassailable? Well, comparing the results in the supporting events throughout the season it is clear that the gap is closing again. With only one match left before the finals it is possible for our teams to clinch the first place this season. I think, now that the dance season has recommenced, and we have competitions as navigation tools, match-fitness will improve and we will find it easier to push our dancing to the next level.
